Water Plain and Simple
What we drink can often have hidden sugars and sweeteners added to it which can cause problems for those of us who are type 2 diabetic and those that are not and want to avoid becoming so. Sticking to liquid intake we know are safe is better for everyone.
There is I believe a psychological thing going on in the commercial world around us that water is in some way lacking and needs ‘pepped up’ or made more ‘interesting’. Tap water in particular is somehow perceived as a bit boring in my observation. Maybe you don’t think like this but it is a thought pattern that I have identified in myself and realized that it is not a view that has helped me in the past.
As a child I was used to seeing adverts for a certain fizzy drink that was ‘made in Scotland from girders’. This may be lost on many but it was a clever strap line. As a child I saw nothing wrong in it and in my minds eye saw a swarthy man with a kilt and a caber, the epitome of human strength and health.
Type 2 diabetes leads from over consuming sugar and processed carbohydrates in our diet.
Today I avoid anything that I drink having sugar, sweeteners, additives ( that I don’t know about ) and more recently have started to reduce beverage intake where I can just drink water. I don’t know particularly why this switched in my head but I think it is a lot to do with the whole low carb thing for sure but it could well also to be with a change of palate due to going high fat, low carb and being in ketosis to one degree or another.
There is a great freedom in this also to be had as there is no harm in drinking plain, clear, safe water. It is devoid of any guilt some may want to put upon other things in our diet that we either need to avoid for good reason or because others have an agenda to push.
You also need to establish green light items that are go-tos you know to be absolutely safe when you are controlling glucose and insulin. I know I can say with confidence that water is one of them.
When eating, drinking water can also be a good thing as was simply put by a former work colleague that fasted daily as part of his culture. He said that a stomach half full of food and then with water is a full stomach. As he was also something of an expert in body health and fitness I have no reason to doubt the reasoning behind this and it certainly works for me in that my body is far less likely to remain in a state of hunger, even when I used to eat carbohydrates when applying this logic.
