Obesity Trends in the UK
In TLDR - How can the government address obesity they show that obesity trends in the UK as elsewhere are on the rise and not showing signs of slowing down. This is a major concern for the health of this and any nation and for us in the UK, the NHS. Some have suggested that this puts us on a collision course to an obesity epidemic.
Causes of obesity are discussed by TLDR and they would agree with my own findings in that foods that are high in processed carbohydrate, sugar and as they say without qualification, fat are increasing the likelihood of those choosing or finding themselves with no other option to eat these foods to become obese.
The kind of fat that is used in processed foods I agree are not at all healthy and will contribute to health issues as they are often seed and grain based oils and fats that are better suited in my view to be used as industrial lubricants rather than as a food substitute for healthy fats that occur naturally in some plant foods, eggs, meat and fish.
This aside, the TLDR report on the causes of obesity I have to agree is pretty much bang on, in particular their pointing out ‘hyper processed foods’ that are cheaper to produce, easy to store and lower cost for the consumer when compared to real food and fresh produce.
No wonder then that those on reduced incomes are more likely to be obese and suffer from health issues as a result.
I don’t know what will happen in the coming years and if ever the realization that I and others have come to that high carbohydrate and hyper processed foods are the most likely cause of obesity and health issues, but I do know that I am not going to wait around for anyone to tell me what to do, having quit sugar, processed carbs and hyper processed foods and having lost weight and improved my health as a result.
I sincerely hope you, dear reader, will do the same.
