Cheese is Good
Cheese can be a good source of fat and protein, it is also a good source of calcium and vitamin D but above all it can provide a key ingredient in a low carb diet, fat.
I had cut down on cheese when following the now, I believe wrongly held belief that all fat is bad in our diets. Having first discovered that it and other foods similar to it have next to no effect on your glucose levels quite frankly I took the risk and started using it.
Cost is another consideration as eating a lot of high fat low carb foods can become pricey. For the carnivore diet people among us, good quality meat and lots of it can come with a price. Cheeses however can fullfil a need without necessarily breaking the bank.
Having been a vegetarian for a time some years ago, I did consider not eating meat as part of my keto, intermittent fasting life style but have come to the conclusion that for now at least I need to eat meat and fish to get the fat and nutrients I need. However i would consider going back to being vegetarian if I found that losing a lot more weight than I am at now were to bring about a reversal of being sensitive to carbohydrates as I believe I currently am.
So far, vegan diets do not seem in my view to provide sufficient fats required to stay in ketosis however, again I am not certain that if losing more weight could enable me to eat more carbs without raising my glucose levels. I am not sure if this is even possible but for now am grateful that I am in remission from type 2.
Cheeses provide a single ingredient and one which can be added to a host of other healthy fat foods that help increase fat intake, reduce hunger and keep you in ketosis.
