Carbohydrate Bomb Shell

Proffessor Noakes is interviewed on a channel I have only just come across called Keto-Pro which I would up to now have avoided due to its association with athletics, running and high endurance sports and sport is not a thing I follow much, being a professional couch potato in my past. But joking aside, this is a fascinating interview and I would recommend you watch it if you have any interest in the effects of carbohydrates on the body and how they can lead to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.

In this discussion it came over to me that scientists are realizing that carbohydrates are not necessary for high energy levels and athletic performance, rather they can lead to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes and in actuality, low carbohydrate high fat diets can lead to higher energy levels and better athletic performance.

This is a bomb shell for some I am sure. However it makes a lot of sense to me as I have been following a low carbohydrate high fat diet for a while now and have found that I have more energy, both mental and physical and am able to do more exercise than I have been able to do for years. I eat less than I ever have before, routinely fast intermittently for up to 24 hours and have lost weight and feel better than I have for years. I no longer have hunger in the way I used to, even being able to stop thinking about when next to eat for a day at a time. This was unheard of for me in the past.

Also mentioned is another video on the same channel regarding food addiction, namely the following. Here is an interview with Dr Jen Unwin, I believe the partner to Dr David Unwin who I have mentioned in a previous post.

Sugar, or carbohydrates, particularly ultra processed foods, Dr Unwin highlights as sources of addiction. More to this, she comments on how some former producers of tobacco products moved into food production, using similar models and methods they used to market tobacco to market ultra processed foods.

Oh my goodness, what a situation.

I hope this is of interest to you and in particular, if you are on a similar journey, I wish you well.
